We'll Do It Live

At the opening of 2013 I started a series of events called The Real Magic Roadshow. I brought some of the best creators in the world of magic to several cities across the United States to share what we do best - live and up close. It was a one day event filled with great magic for a ridiculously low price. When I announced the idea, I had more than my share of doubters. I heard repeatedly that the live magic experience was suffering everywhere and there would be little chance that we could make it work.

I was more than a little the nauseous the morning of that first event. People had serious money on the line – flights, hotel rooms, rental cars. Maybe I should have listened to the doubters…

But when we closed the doors that evening – it was a resounding success and we were clearly on to something. The tour continued and in each city we were overwhelmingly welcomed with amazing support.

It was some of the most fun I have EVER had in this business.

When I sold Elmwood Magic to Penguin Magic in 2014 – I was absolutely thrilled that they showed interest in pursuing the Roadshow concept with me. Penguin has an outstanding team of creative and energetic individuals working behind the scenes and I knew that they had the potential to generate even greater success with these events.

Under the new banner of the Live Magic Expo, THOUSANDS of attendees have walked through the door of these unique events. Truly, the support and enthusiasm from the world of magic has been breathtaking.

People have asked me why I ever decided to do these events. I could give many answers – but the primary motivation was a response to issues I heard from many magicians about attending conventions. They wanted to see all the great new magic available but…

  • The event was too expensive. If you register in advance, you save $10 AND you get a $10 voucher to use in the room!
  • The event was too long. The Expo is an intense one day experience. You’ll get to see and purchase the latest and greatest from some of the industries leading dealers and creators – and you’ll still have most of your day for family, work, or other responsibilities.
  • The travel costs were prohibitive. No need to travel a great distance to places like Las Vegas, we’re coming to you! Even if you need to drive a few hours, the day ends early enough that you’ll be home and sleeping in your own bed. That means no hotel or costly travel expenses.

I believe strongly in the live magic experience. Not a YouTube video – but a real, hands-on, face to face experience. Those opportunities seem to be dwindling for magicians. If you’ve ever lamented that fact – then the Expo is for you.

Penguin Magic and the Live Magic Expo team have worked hard to make these events a success, but it’s up to you to finish the job.

The road is calling. Will you answer?

Paul,

Just found your blog!

I had a great time at the Live Magic Expo in Austin, and really hope they continue. It is easily the best way to buy magic today!

Thanks for all the effort you, the guys and Penguin put in to make it so memorable!

Andy
